He starts his rise as a taxi driver pulled into the mob by happenstance, then becomes the victim (and participant) in all the intrigue, backstabbing, and capers you’d expect. Unfortunately, Angelo’s tale is disjointed and boring, with time skips that undermine how you’re supposed to feel about the relationships that he apparently builds over the years.Īngelo’s story is told in flashbacks as he’s going over his past with an investigator. Need to catch your breath? Too bad! It's an interesting approach, and one that I’d probably enjoy more if the story was more engaging. Instead, the narrative relentlessly drives you forward, with the end of one chapter propelling you right into the start of the next.

You’re free to peel off from the next story beat and explore side streets and back roads, but don’t expect to find much in the way of optional activities or interesting secrets.

The early Mafia games used their open worlds differently than their competitors, with cities that aren’t really interactive playgrounds, but are more similar to film soundstages. It’s an admirable approach, but then you have to actually play the damned thing. Hangar 13 has rebuilt the nearly 20-year-old game, bringing the visuals up to contemporary standards and adding a few quality-of-life enhancements while ultimately respecting the original’s core design. ET.Mafia: Definitive Edition is an interesting time capsule that not only lets players experience Tommy Angelo’s rise in an ersatz ‘30s-era Chicago dubbed Lost Heaven, but will likely inspire greater appreciation for how far the industry has come since 2002. This brief teaser trailer doesn’t say anything about when the Mafia: Trilogy will be released, but it does say that more news and a bigger announcement are on the way on May 19 at 9 a.m. The game was developed by Hangar 13, the same studio behind this new trilogy re-release. Clay is a resident of the city of New Bordeaux, based on New Orleans, and wants to build his own criminal organization to steal the city away from the Italian mob that currently runs it. Mafia 3 takes a very different path from the first two games by centering on Lincoln Clay.
#MAFIA 4 PS4 2020 WINDOWS#
The most recent game in the series, Mafia 3 came out back in 2016 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. Along with its fantastic crime story, Mafia 2 had one of the most impressive cover and shooting systems of any open-world game that generation.
#MAFIA 4 PS4 2020 PC#
Mafia 2 was originally released on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 - though the PC version didn’t run particularly well when it launched. Scaletta returns home after the war and falls in with local mobs and quickly rises to power in his home city of Empire Bay - which is a combination of Chicago and New York City. Mafia 2 takes place a few years later, shortly after World War II, with players taking on the role of Vito Scaletta. The game featured a pretty impressive recreation of a 1930s city, along with dozens of era-appropriate cars, but was mostly overshadowed by Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, which came out a couple of months later. The original Mafia was released in 2002 on PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC and followed the rise and fall of Tommy Angelo. Each Mafia game came out for a completely different console generation, which means this is the first time they’ll all be playable on the same system - excluding PC. The trailer confirms Mafia: Trilogy for PlayStation 4, Windows PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), and Xbox One. The announcement came with a very short teaser that flashes between characters from all three games, but doesn’t show much else. The Mafia series, one of the most underrated modern gaming franchises, is getting a new release as a complete trilogy, 2K games and Hangar 13 revealed on Wednesday.
